Health & Wellness Conference or Fair? What is your idea, please?
Yesterday (3.23), Auntie/Stephanie found out about a grant opportunity that Aunties may apply for it. The Durham Youth Leadership Fund - Community Grant Program. A grant that focuses on young people ages 13-24. Please see the info below. Only thing, the interest form is due on Sunday, so please respond by Saturday evening, if you can. Thank you!
The grant calls for young people (ages 13-24) to lead/help plan the project and we would like your help! The grant has 3 categories, including creating art opportunities, creating a safe space and the one below (our proposed focus).
- Creating new opportunities that enhance and support young people’s mental health and wellness
Project Idea: an in-person conference/fair is to have classes/seminars that focus on mental, emotional, physical, spiritual and social health of young people. I am also thinking about looking into materials that we can send home with the attendees for continued support after the conference/fair.
What do you think? What is your idea for how we can support young people in this age range? Do you think young people would benefit from something like this or is there another project we can take on? You are the experts, so please let us know.

Class ideas/topics (subject to change based on your feedback):
1) Mental Matters Matter (maybe?)
2) In My Feelings: My Emotional State of Being
3) My Physical Health
a) one session on exercising
b) one on heathy eating
c) third one maybe?
4) Healthy Hair Care (Te'Sytlz will teach maybe?)
5) Dental Health
6) What are your ideas?
*That is all I can think of right now, but I am thinking about having health screenings available (vision, BMI, lung capacity, etc.). Maybe get the local health department, NCCU, Duke, UNC-CH involved to help with this. Any ideas?

Commitment: help/lead planning, help present our project virtually to the grant review team (April or May).
If we are awarded the grant: meetings to plan the project, host/lead the project, help evaluate how it went.
